2 new plays stirring in the brain

So on top of my ridiculous current commitments I have 2 new plays stirring in my brain. I need to set them aside til I finish my immediate obligations. They’re both dark and exciting. I figure if i mention them here I’ll have to get back to them! Both are pretty dance heavy. What’s with that? And in a way, they are both fairy tales. Archetypes and stereotypes dancing, fighting and trying to reconcile demons they have bought into, or possibly have been convinced of their existence and power. ummm…should I go back to therapy? What the heck am I working thru now Don’t fret I’m on top of it. A lot of my “stuff” is premiering next month or so. It’s very exciting over in David-land. Stay tuned.

OK I know that sounds a bit like Eat Pray Love but it’s better-er-er. I’m pretty darn close to finishing When Carrots Ruled the World. It’ short poem-ish thing I wrote for absolutely no reason whatsoever. It just kind of amused me. BUT everyone who has read it loves it so I figured “ok let’s make into a book.” Then I knew I had to hire an artist. Even a cheap artist is pricey so I was wondering how I could cut corners and then it came to me: remember when you were a kid and you cut shapes into potatoes and then dipped them into ink and made wood-block-like art? Well why not do that with carrots and let that be the art!

So I went to the farmer’s Market this morning and have been brushing paint on produce all day. Now to scan and whatnot… BUT I have to say this has been so much fun! I was nervous and kept putting it off because I so doubt my art skills but then I was like “Dude you’re dipping fruit into paint and then pushing it on paper a chimp could do this!” and so I just did it. I think the final product is going to be amazing. At the very least it’ll be cute. My goal is to have an e-book by May 1st.

ps working with paint ALL DAY has mad me a bit manic. I’m sort of rambl-y

Quick update from the front lines: Wicca Please is AWESOME (and I use the A word for reals) 2 quick scenes left to shoot and the music from Rebecca Norris is perfect. Hang on fans and friends almost there! Any Given Day is underway. 3 classes down with the kids from Echo Park and hopefully Rwanda writings will be emailed any day. Hurrah! Counting Book is 1/4 done. Inking time is hard to find. Good for 1 Fr is OUTLINED! I finally figured out the end. Stories to be Told is in 2 weeks. Everything else will be pushed ot the side so I can knock it out of the park! Or at least out of the basement I’ll be performing in Ok back to work!

My collection of children’s stories for GLBT youths and children of GLBT parents is confirmed! Sunday April 1st at 2pm! I’m telling 4 stories: Mary-Anne and Ginger; The Shrew, the Shoe, a King and a Prince; boy-girl-girl-boy; and soon to be world famous, The Sassy Scarf Story! I’m excited to be working with Yolanda Baños who has already told me to slow down like 14 times! It’s technically only a workshop but you know me: rehearse rehearse rehearse! The stories just make me giggle and the words leap off my lips. It’s weird. If you would have asked me years ago if I’d write GLBT children’s stories I would have looked at you like you were a crazy person. But now having done it…it’s like….what took you so long dude? I think you’ll smile right along with me.

If you were peaking through my windows this morning, I was underwear clad jumping around to this because I solved through a missing piece in a story. Who knew finding things to count would be so hard? And of course, as always, the answer was incredibly obvious. I mean so obvious I’m not going to tell you because you’ll thinkest me a stupid of the head. Now back to the drawing pad and make this counting book happen! Literally. I’m drawing it. For real. Don’t be scared. Think less Degas and more silly sketches from a creature with no opposable thumbs. And I mean that in the most self-aware-life-affirming way.

Man I am tired! We have shot episodes 2,3,4 of Wicca Please and this Monday, we shoot half of episode 1 and then have to find a location for the last part. (Got a safehouse or hotel room anyone:) SO far the footage looks awesome thanks to an amazing cast and crew all of whom will get thanked endlessly! SO far we’ve interrogated a vampire, caught a satyr and ran from the undead. Pictures are coming soon!

I CAN’T BELIEVE WE START SHOOTING IN 2 DAYS!!!!! Wasn’t this just a funny idea like yesterday! And now we’re rehearsing, scheduling, building, planning…..I just braided the satyr’s hair and Tommy, the makeup artist, has filed Albert’s fangs to a wonderful point and is sculpting horns for previously mentioned satyr. If I get any cool set pictures I’ll post them! Oh yea, I also outlined the next 4 episodes. Someone stop me. Seriously. I’m nuts. (BUT I am having more fun than should be allowed under the law:)

Ahh I love turns of the wheel! It makes you think about all the amazing things you’ve accomplished and new adventures awaiting! Wicca Please is in full pre-pro mode, so, ouch, I’m already exhausted And yes, I will be self-publishing a new work this year. I’m just not totally sure which one I’m going to do. I’m heavily leaning towards “Good for 1 Fr” which is about a boy who one day dares to dream. But man it’s sort of a bummer opening. We’ll see. There’s always Baby Brow which makes me smile. I think almost all my stories make me smile…which makes it difficult to pick one to “do.” I guess if they aren’t making me happy what would be the point? Ahh now there’s a lovely thought with which to enter 2012! Peace to all inside and out. And oh yea…dare to dream!

Ok I kind of look like EVITA. BUT this was from the story I told in November. Taken by Matt Chaney. He really captures my..insanity?…..diva-ness?…..intensity?……ok weirdness. I can’t believe we start shooting Wicca in a month. Grant me strength. Ya know come to think of it maybe I look like I’m calling upon ancient gods for power?! No I just look weird.
